Announcement of Joint Statement of the UK Japan Transition Planning Dialogue (June 2026)

The UK–Japan Transition Plan Dialogue was established in August 2025 to bring together public and private sector leaders from the United Kingdom and Japan to advance credible transition planning and support the development of transition finance. Over the course of a year, the UK-Japan Transition Plan Dialogue provided a platform for collaboration, knowledge sharing, and policy exchange between two countries committed to supporting the transition to a low-emissions climate resilient economy.

A Platform for Collaboration

Jointly convened by the International Transition Plan Network (ITPN), FinCity.Tokyo and the University of Oxford, the Dialogue brought together senior representatives from government, regulators, financial institutions, companies, and civil society. Through a series of discussions in Tokyo and London, participants shared perspectives and explored practical approaches to strengthening transition planning frameworks, improving market practices, and supporting investment in the transition.

The Joint Statement

The publication of this Joint Statement by the convenors concludes the Dialogue. It sets out a series of recommendations to the governments of the United Kingdom and Japan aimed at supporting credible transition planning, strengthening transition finance markets, and reinforcing joint leadership in this area.
The recommendations have been developed by, and are supported by, the convenors based on discussions held throughout the Dialogue. They reflect the convenors’ synthesis of perspectives shared by a wide range of stakeholders and do not necessarily represent the individual views of participating organisations, including government representatives.
