Today, the Organization of Global Financial City Tokyo (hereinafter “FinCity.Tokyo”) and the Climate Bonds Initiative agreed to strengthen international collaboration in the field of sustainable finance, with the aim of further enhancing Tokyo’s presence and demonstrating its leadership as an international financial center.

FinCity.Tokyo undertakes international promotional activities to enhance Tokyo’s presence as a financial center. In particular, through roadshows and other outreach activities at financial centers around the world, FinCity.Tokyo seeks to showcase Tokyo’s advanced sustainable finance initiatives internationally, build global networks, and contribute to global decarbonization.

Climate Bonds Initiative has provided expertise to support the development of sustainable finance markets through activities including the development of international standards and certification for bonds and other financial instruments that contribute to addressing climate change. It has also supported initiatives by governments, financial institutions, companies, investors, and other stakeholders in Japan and overseas. In addition, by leveraging its global network and international reach, Climate Bonds Initiative has worked to promote understanding of sustainable finance and foster networks among market participants.

Taking the opportunity presented by the 2026 London Climate Action Week, FinCity.Tokyo and Climate Bonds Initiative co-hosted their first roundtable in London on June 24, with the aim of sharing best practices in areas including transition finance and resilience finance and deepening collaboration between the Japanese and UK financial centers.

Through this initiative, both organizations recognized the importance of further expanding and deepening collaboration between participants in Japan’s sustainable finance market and international stakeholders, including overseas investors.

Building on this agreement, FinCity.Tokyo and Climate Bonds Initiative will establish an ongoing cooperative relationship and seek to further expand this collaboration by inviting a broad range of domestic and international public and private sector stakeholders to participate, including policymakers, regulatory authorities, industry associations, and private financial institutions, while sharing the knowledge and advanced initiatives accumulated within Tokyo’s financial center. Through these efforts, the two organizations will work to build an internationally influential network.

We ask all those who support the purpose of this initiative to lend their support to the further expansion of this cooperative framework.
